JULY in the mountains
Langdale boulders, Lake District • I was heading into Great Langdale, planning to hike Crinkle Crags and Bow Fell. I pulled the car up as there was a lovely cloud inversion in the valley, and took a couple of photos as the first sunlight hit the Langdale Pikes. Right then it began to rain further up the valley, and a rainbow appeared to crown the scene. It was a great start to the day, and a total surprise – I’d expected neither the inversion nor the rainbow.
